Map Description:	

This is the Unreal Tournament 3 DM-certamen by: Michael Dunn (A.k.A. Ashigeru). This Death Match map includes a lava volume, hidden rooms, flame and smoke emitters, sniper posts, Jump Pads, random teleporters, and movers (elevators and floating slab).

This was my first attempt at creating a level using UnrealEd3. The concept was for a full mod of the game to allow for spellcasting in place of UT3 standard weapons. I was unable to complete the weapons mod due to time constraints. DM-certamen was created as a class project for the "Level Design 1" class at ITT-Technical Institute during the Winter quarter of 2008.  Time to complete 5 weeks.

Author's Notes

Certamen is latin for magical duel.  The original concept for this level was as a mod which would, when played, show robed wizards casting spells rather than armored high tech warriors using futuristic weapons.  In place of weapons pickups there would be scrolls. In place of ammunition there would be mana pools.  The result would be a total change in the appearance of the game, right down to the u.i. I and some classmates are continuing to work on the mod portion of the game.  For now, here is the level created for the mod.

The story of the level is as follows:

Dark ages- Hidded in the Caucasus mountains. Deep within caverns lay the Monastery of the Order.  According to the Holy Mother Church, it is just one of many monateries that serve it.
What the Church does not know is that this monestary teaches the forbidden arts of sorcery.
It is now the annual time of testing, where acolytes are tested on their skills in magical duels.  The winners will be allowed to pass into the priesthood of the Order.  The losers will be retained for further instruction.

Installation:

Unzip DM-certamen.zip

Place all files in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\My
Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\Private\Maps

When that is done, select the map in the instant action menu (ingame).
